Have you ever imagined how it feels like having a pet? Well, maybe you have. I am sure you will be very excited because there is an addition to the household.

And then after picking up the dog of your choice and bringing your pet into the house, it dawned upon you that your dog is quite dominant and hard to control. What do you do next? You embark upon training your dog to do your bidding. Wait! Before you do so, do you really know what you’re up to? Do you know what you are going to train? You may say it’s a dog. You’re going to train a dog. Just like with any tasks, don’t come unprepared. Understanding and knowledge are both essential so take the time to know why dogs behave that way.

Looking back at your canine friend’s origins, a dog is a descendant of wolves. Basically, although dogs have been domesticated thousands of years before, there are some characteristics similar to a wolf that is by instinct ingrained within your pet. For example, the sense of smell is like reading a newspaper for the dog. It tells everything just with a smell. Unlike for us, we need to see, hear and even feel to understand what’s going on. In other words, although domesticated they still retain some of their most basic instincts. You have to keep that in mind before going off to tame your dog.

When you feel that the time is right to train your dog and to show who is boss, what are you waiting for? Go ahead and start training your dog. There are three basic things you should remember when training your dog. They are; Focus, Take Control and claim all things as your possession that is inside the house, of course.

Let’s begin with focus. Why do you need focus? Well, if you start training a dog, you may lose your cool as dogs do not understand simple English like sit down or stay. I bet you will find it very annoying. Some people think that the best way to deal with this is to beat the pet or even yell at them, Stop! You should not do that as it won’t do you any good. All you need to do is to be calm, steady and always remain firm. The most important thing that you should remember is that you should always remain calm when training your dog.

The next part of training is taking control. How do you take control? No, you do not yell. Instead, you should always maintain eye contact and make sure that you are firm when teaching your dog new things. By maintaining this, you will let your dog know that you are in charge and the one who has the authority. The submissive dogs will look away but not the dominant ones. Therefore, you should always remember to look your dog in the eyes and be firm.

The last part of training is to claim all things as yours whether this is about toys, food; rugs and so on stand your ground. You should only share your things with your dog when he understands that you are the one in charge.

Now that you are aware of these things, you can continue teaching your pet until the desired results are achieved. However in all things, remember to keep a little tender loving care for your pet, after all we are talking about your dog.

The Havanese is a great choice as a family pet for many families, because he is a friendly, playful dog that enjoys adults, kids and other animals alike. However, just like any new pet, there are some things you need to know about caring for your Havanese properly before you bring him home from that breeder. These little dogs can be fairly flexible and resilient, but there are care requirements that are general dog care guidelines as well as concerns that are unique to this breed. It is important to educate yourself in the area of Havanese care to ensure that your new pet gets the best environment possible to grow and thrive.

Part of Havanese care is to concern yourself with specific aspects of Havanese health, so that you know what types of problems to need to be aware of with your dog. It is also important to know what the requirements of your dog will be in terms of grooming, and diet and exercise. By preparing for your Havanese care in these three aspects, you will be ready to bring that adorable puppy home and make it a part of your family.

There are a number of health concerns with the Havanese that this breed is genetically predispositioned for. These concerns might include eye problems like catartacts (even at a young age), and progressive retinol atrophy (which can result in blindness).

By having a knowledge of these Havanese health problems before you select your puppy, you can screen breeders to find out if they have had experienced any of these health problems in their lines of dogs. A reputable breeder should be able to provide you with documentation to show whether these health concerns might be a problem with your puppy.

Another important component to Havanese health is keeping your puppy clean and well groomed. The coats of these beautiful dogs need to be brushed regularly to keep them shiny and free of tangles. Some owners prefer to clip the coats of their Havanese to make them easier to care for, especially in the warmer summer months. A monthly bath should be sufficient to keep your pet clean and healthy.

When it comes to the relationship between diet and Havanese health, there are two options that you can follow. The first is to use a high-quality manufactured pet food right from the pet store. If you are unsure of which food is best, you can ask your breeder or veterinarian for a recommendation.

It is also important for your dog to get regular exercise, whether it is a few rounds of fetch in the backyard or a walk through the neighborhood with you. Regular exercise will help to keep your dog’s energy level up and maintain a healthy weight.

Along with the nutritious diet, your pup will need regular exercise, and he will enjoy it more if he gets to do it with you! Take him for a walk every day, or play a few rounds of fetch in the backyard. With daily exercise, regular grooming sessions and a healthy diet, your pet will be the healthiest and happiest that he can be.

Chihuahua breeding has become a popular business, and this can work both for and against you when you are on the hunt for the perfect Chihuahua puppy. On a positive note, if you are serious about wanting a puppy from a responsible Chihuahua breeder you will be able to find a breeder that has the perfect dog for you. The down side is that there is Chihuahua breeding going on that is not done in a responsible fashion, and the result can be unhealthy, unfriendly ugly dogs - probably not what you are hoping for in a family pet.

Never rush into the purchase of a dog. Keep in mind that Chihuahuas can live 18 years or more, so this pet will be a long-term commitment. You will want to find a puppy that is healthy and bred carefully to prevent possible genetic defects and illnesses.

In order to ensure that the breeder you select practices responsible Chihuahua breeding, you will want to make sure that the person has a good reputation in this realm. This can be done through asking for recommendations for Chihuahua breeders from people or organizations that you can trust to give you good information about the breeders that you are considering. This might include state or national Chihuahua clubs or the American Kennel Club. It might also include visiting some dog events that breeders and the people that know them attend. Dog publications will often have listings of reputable breeders and your veterinarian might have a name or two as well.

Another good place to hunt for Chihuahua breeders is on the Internet. If you can find a breeder in your area, you will be able to visit and check out the location and dogs for yourself. If not, you will want to take a few extra precautions to ensure that the breeder you select practices responsible Chihuahua breeding so that you will be able to get the healthy dog that you are looking for.

Locating a Chihuahua breeder is the first step. The next step will be to make sure that the breeder you select practices responsible Chihuahua breeding. This can be done by first interviewing the potential breeder about some of his policies regarding his dogs. A responsible breeder will screen his dogs for hereditary problems like Luxating Patella and eye diseases, which are often seen in the Chihuahua breed.

You can do this by coming to your first meeting equipped with a list of questions that include whether the dogs are tested for hereditary problems and if dogs that test positive are kept out of the breeding process. You can ask about the lines of dogs that your puppy has come from, and spend some time with the puppies parents to see what kind of dogs they are.

It is also good to visit the breeding site to see if it is well maintained and the puppies are well cared for. The pups should be kept indoors with the family much of the time, to ensure that they are well socialized. Your breeder should spend time quizzing you as well, so that he knows his pup will go to a good home.

If you follow these guidelines, your chances of finding a person who is responsible in Chihuahua breeding is good, and you will be able to purchase a puppy that will bring you years of enjoyment.

While anyone can put on a smiling face and tell you everything you want to hear you want to be certain that you look past the smiling face when you are talking to prospective Chihuahua breeders. You should do a lot of research before you decide to do business with any particular breeder. And any good and reputable breeder will insist that you do your research as well so that everyone is comfortable with the whole transaction. Reputable breeders have nothing to hide.

Your quest should begin by asking which national breeder registry the breeder belongs to. The American Kennel Club is the one everyone knows but there are others out there just as acceptable. Check their registration for yourself and see what you think of that breeder’s group breeding standards and if you are comfortable with them. If they do not belong to a registry you need to ask why.

You will never get better advice about any aspect of your dog’s life than from your vet. If you do not have a vet yet then the time to strike up a relationship with a vet is when you are looking for a Chihuahua breeder. Your vet may have opinions on the breeders you are considering and may also have breeders to recommend to you that they have done a great deal of business with in the past. Always consult with your vet prior to dealing with any Chihuahua breeder.

You may not have thought of this but you should also probably have a talk with the local law enforcement officials about the breeders you are considering. Suffice to say that if the local law enforcement are very familiar, in a bad way, with a particular breeder then it would probably be a very good idea for you to avoid any dealings with that breeder for your good and also to protect your family from any future problems with your new pet.

As important as any of the people mentioned in this article are to talk to about prospective Chihuahua breeders the one group that you need to make sure you talk to a lot is the breeders themselves. Find out what their policies and beliefs about breeding are and ask if they will be available to you after the sale is done.

A pet becomes a family member so make sure you are making the right choice and ask your prospective Chihuahua breeders a lot of questions.

Choosing a good breeder is the most important step to getting a Chihuahua for you and your family. It is up to you to do the research and find out if the breeders you are considering are people you want to do business with or not.

So take your time when you are choosing a breeder and make sure you feel totally comfortable with the choice you make because it is an important choice for the happiness of your family.

by Bobby Callahan

The Bulldog can easily be considered as one of the most popular and widely loved breeds of dog in the world. This is really not surprising when you consider their fabulous personality. They are loyal, affectionate, devoted to their owners and have a really unique appearance that is very favorable to most owners. There is a process that you are going to have to deal with if you are interested in getting a Bulldog for a pet however, and this is the process of finding a legitimate and reputable Bulldog breeder.

You need to find a responsible breeder, one that really cares about their dogs. Good breeders will only breed once in a while rather than frequently, because they need to take time to find two adequate dogs that are both healthy and fit to be bred. Other breeders, better known as mass breeders, will breed as often as they can and then sell the puppies as quickly as possible in order to make the most money.

The process of finding the right Bulldog breeder really does not have to be difficult, as long as you know the right questions to ask. One of the first things you will want to ask a Bulldog breeder is what the asking price of the puppies is, keeping in mind that you want to avoid any breeder who charges different prices for males or females or who charges extra if you want a pedigree or registration.

Another of the most important questions you want to ask a Bulldog breeder is what health tests have been done on both parents of the litter, because this will ensure the health of the puppy you are getting. You should also inquire about what temperament and socialization has been done because the breeder should have already exposed the puppies to as many things as they can including vacuum cleaners, children, house sounds and so on.

Remember that if the breeder is ever unwilling or unable to provide you with answers or says that there is nothing in the line and so testing is not important, you should avoid doing business with this person. The process of finding the right Bulldog breeder may certainly seem a bit daunting at first, especially to first time dog buyers who have never gone through this experience before.

You also want to keep in mind that any good breeder is going to be respectful that you are asking so many questions rather than acting as though you have overstepped your bounds.

Good breeders want to make sure that their puppies are going to be headed to the right homes and so be prepared for them to ask just as many questions as you. Expect them to inquire about where you live, how large your home is, and whether you have any children or other animals.

That is because good breeders care about their dogs and want to make sure that they will be headed to the most suitable homes. Be prepared for them to ask just as many questions as you including where you live, how large your home is, and who is going to be occupying the home.

Dog food can be examined for nutrition required for daily functioning. Reviewing the nutrients dog food contains is very important. Quality dog food needs to contain carbohydrates, protein, vitamins, fiber, and other nutrients. A dog must have a balanced diet in order for the dog to have energy and be healthy. Giving the dog too much food leads to obesity and reproduction. Since dogs’ lives are short, frequent pregnancies are not recommended.

Carbohydrates can be found in wheat products, as well as rice, corn, and other grain products. The dog’s movement is greatly impacted by the carbohydrate portion of the dog’s diet. When carbohydrates enter the digestive system, they break down and form glucose which in turn creates energy.

The protein part of the dog food analysis - reviews of the kibble is necessary. The protein is responsible for the growth of cells. Millions of cells are grown and get shed everyday. They need protein for their growth. It can be obtained from meat and other related items. They are also responsible for good look.

Fibre food is very essential for good functioning of stomach. It can be obtained from necessary materials. They are good in the sense they fulfill the stomach and active for many hours. The fibrous food are obtained from some of the plant food, greens and other plant related items have fiber food.

The vitamin part of the dog food analysis - reviews of the kibble is important.Vitamins are necessary ingredients which is responsible for good functions of parts of body. Vitamin A, D, B are all necessary for the dogs survival. They can be given food with rich in vitamins on routine basis. The vitamins are obtained from vegetable food, fruits and from sunlight.

Health is definitely directly related to a dog’s nutrition. Happiness and proper body functioning will be achieved from a nutritious diet. Training can also be much easier if a dog is fed properly. Many dogs can be trained to work fields, tend sheep and cows, and perform laborious tasks. Other dogs can be trained to do basic tasks like fetching a newspaper, protecting the home from intruders, or keeping dangerous animals like snakes away.

Proteins can be found in soy beans and cereal. Dysentery can be avoided by giving your dog moderately spicy foods. The form the food is served in is very important. Natural foods are usually more healthy than processed foods. Homemade food is actually easy to make, but do not let the food spoil.

It is important that dogs do not eat small animals that could poison them, including mice, rats, and snakes. Dogs should also receive regular physicals where their dog food is reviewed to make sure you are giving the dog all the nutrients they need. Also take care so that your dog does not reproduce with dogs that could be disease carriers.

In many countries and around the Americas, dog owners enjoy their pets a great deal. They’re oftentimes believed to be members of the family, just as an additional son or daughter. One of the reasons for this is because of how easily dogs can be trained, particularly when utilizing dog obedience hand signals.

Because of the power that pet dogs possess of being perceptive to body language, they can well comprehend not only verbal commands exclusively, but they’ve a great ability to learning hand signals for dog training. This makes their training more easygoing, than when exclusively only verbal commands are used.

Dog training hand signals are pleasurable to teach and easy to understand by most dogs. The very first thing to do is to associate your hand signals in gradual repetition then slowly disregard the verbal command. When you are training your pet, it is advisable that the primary command that you should teach is the sit technique.

So, what is the right method to demonstrate your pup the sit command with dog hand signals? Among the 1st thing you need to do when instructing him to do so, is to ensure that your flurry friend is giving full attention to you. Whenever your pet isn’t paying attention to you, you want to address him by his name. Besides, when training the sitting command to your dog, you had better be on a controlled surrounding, perhaps in a room with just you and your pup. After you’ve got your puppy’s attention a 100%, then point at your pet with your index finger and verbalize the command “sit”. If the pup does not comprehend the command, demonstrate him how to sit, by positioning him on the sit position.

At the instant that you realize that your dog have subdued the skill of sitting, it’s time to practice a brand-new trick. You’ll be able to begin then, teaching your pet on the down command. The down command is a bit harder than the sit command is, as some dogs defy going down on the flooring. Performing the down command for them implies to let down their guard, and many dogs have trouble with this. To instruct your dog on the down command, begin with your dog on the sitting down posture, and position a treat in front of his nozzle and lower the treat down to the floor as you state the word “down”. Chances are your dog will follow the treat downwards to the floor and will land up lying down on his abdomen.

Once your puppy understands the sit down and down commands, you’re set up to train him on one of the most vital orders. This command could in reality spare the life of your dog in the event that your dog chooses to get over the street when an auto is approaching. There are a lot of methods of training your dog on the come command, but among them is to position a leash on your dog, call his name and then enounce the command “come”, finally softly draw in the dog toward you using the leash and praise him after he’s closed to you.

After your dog masters the spoken command for come, you can then start to train him in the come command by using dog hand signals. To do this bend your arm at the elbow, move backwards and bring your arm toward you in a sweeping motion, and say the command “come”. If your dog won’t come you might want to keep a treat in your hand, give the verbal and hand signal for the command and once your dog comes to you, give him tons of praises and the treat.

Yorkies are slowly but surely finding a way to squeeze into the hearts of millions of people around the world. This compact but very sturdy animal is a great addition to many homes because of their fun loving and outgoing nature.

And there is no need to worry about other animals or pets within the home as Yorkies can pretty much get along with everyone and that includes humans and animals. So beware as this little outgoing pup may just make its way into your heart.

With a full grown Yorkie being able to still fit into a backpack or a doggy bag, this pup can go everywhere with their owner. And this is something that the pup would love as they love attention, in fact, they cannot seem to get enough of it. But don’t forget, even though they love attention, they also have a mind of their own and show this through their independence.

Even though someone may not think it at first, the Yorkshire Terrier can make an excellent guard dog for your home and for your family. Even though with their size, they may not be able to scare off a stranger, they can certainly alert you to the presence of danger by barking like crazy. It is because of their dedication to their home and family that the Yorkies are so vocal.

Yorkies are also known for loving to run around the house or in circles at times, as they love their exercise. With all of this running around though, it is important that the Yorkies get the proper grooming that they need such as daily brushing of their long and silky coat. Without the daily brushing, their hair can get matted and end up a complete mess which will be hard to deal with. So by taking care of their coat on a regular basis, it will be so much easier.

Even though it seems like Yorkies would get along with everyone, they tend to dislike small children. It is generally the fast and unswift movements made by children that can scare off the Yorkies. Remember, Yorkies are small in size and the way a child looks when he or she is jumping towards them must be a scary experience. When in fear of a child, it would not be uncommon for them to bite at the child, which could cause physical and emotional damage.

Yorkies are also sometimes hard to house train as that independent personality tends to come out. They seem to have a mind of their own at times and this can get in the way of a quick training, but that is not to say that they are not trainable at all.

It just takes the Yorkies a little more time to get the hang of things. Yorkies also do not prefer to be in the rain or out in the cold so if heading outdoors, you may just want to grab their favorite sweater for comfort.

by Lee Dobbins

Dog bee stings can be just as painful for your dog as they are for you, and they are more common than you think in the summertime.

Anyone who’s brought their dog outside in the summer sees that dogs just can’t help snapping at insects that fly past his muzzle. We’re not sure why dogs like to do this, but often the outcome is a painful sting in a sensitive part of the mouth or face!

If your dog gets stung, you’ll probably realize it right away. He’ll be whining and pawing at his mouth. He may even starting salivating a lot more than usual, which can be upsetting as it tends to froth and foam.

There are several options to help relieve the pain of dog bee stings:

Clean the sting site with a mixture of warm water and baking soda. One tablespoon of soda to two pints of water is a good formula to use, and don’t worry if your dog swallows some - it’s harmless. Repeat the cleansing procedure every 10 minutes until the sting seems to be less bothersome to your dog.

Applying ammoniated quinine right on the affected spot can help, too.

If your dog is acting really agitated, you might try to give him some potassium bromide to calm him down, however, most dogs take a bee sting in stride.

See if you can locate the stinger, and if you can you might try to take it out with tweezers - that is, if your dog will sit still for that.

A trip to the vet because of a sting may seem trivial at the time, but a sting can be very painful and lead to swelling and other unpleasant effects from the sting. So if your pet seems uncomfortable at all after a sting bring them to the vet, it will save your pet a lot of pain.

Dog bee stings are just part and parcel of the summer experience, unfortunately. Dogs can get lucky - snapping at bees buzzing by may not necessarily mean your dog will be stung. Once I owned a dog that chased bees every moment he was outside and he was never stung (to my knowledge). But it never hurts to know what to do for your dog, just in case of a painful sting.

Unfortunately there are many unpleasant experiences with dogs and kids. Some kids don’t like dogs; some dogs don’t like kids; and sometimes the feeling is mutual. If you have kids and also want a dog, you may worry that they won’t be compatible which is why training a dog for children is key. Since the last thing you want is a bad-tempered dog that isn’t safe to be around kids, you might consider giving up the idea of obtaining a dog altogether.

Luckily you shouldn’t have to forgo getting a dog just because you are afraid it won’t get along with your kids. You may have a dog that gets along quite well with your kids and one that your kids will love! Most dogs are well tempered and enjoy playing with children, the key is to pick one that likes kids in the first place.

It is not difficult to train your dog to be both great company and a great playmate for your child. In fact, training a dog for children involves little more than teaching it not to bite and not to jump on small kids. However, both your child and dog will need to learn some basic behaviors for living and playing together.

Choosing a dog who doesn’t exhibit unnecessarily aggressive behavior is essential if he is going to be living with young children. He can be trained to play nicely with you and the kids if he has a pleasant temperament. It’s just as important for your children to realize that the new pet isn’t a toy. A dog might become anxious or aggressive if he is immediately subjected to unfamiliar roughhousing. You don’t want him to fear your children or bite them in self-defense.

Although it’s extremely important to teach your children to be gentle and thoughtful with your new dog, you should not leave him unsupervised with very young children. The best way to acquaint them and help them form a compatible relationship would be to let your kids and new dog gradually get used to each other while you are present.

When deciding on a dog your prospective dog’s personality should play an important role if you also have young children. Training a dog for children is easy if the dog has a sweet personality. If you have really small children, you might want a smaller dog. A dog that is both energetic and can be controlled is a good match for a home with older children.
